This explains what we hold about you and what we do with it. We collect what the product needs to work and not much else, and we do not sell it.
Who is responsible for your data
FATCOMMA is a live streaming platform for developers, operated by Web Hero Limited, a company registered in England and Wales with company number 15866557. Our registered office is 71-75 Shelton Street, Covent Garden, London, WC2H 9JQ, United Kingdom.
For UK and EU data protection law, we are the controller of the personal data described here.
What we collect
From you, directly:
- Your email address and a password, which is stored hashed and is never readable by us.
- Your date of birth, given at sign-up. It is used to check you are old enough to hold an account and to decide whether channels marked for adults open for you. It is never shown on your profile or to anybody else.
- Your channel name, display name, description, links, chosen stacks, models, topics and languages, and your channel colour.
- Anything you stream, upload, clip or type in chat.
- Payment details, if you buy Commas, which go straight to Stripe and are never stored by us.
- Payout and identity details, if you are a creator taking money out, which go to Stripe.
- Whatever you write in the contact form, with the name and email address you give us so we can reply.
Automatically, as you use the site:
- Who you follow, and what you have reminders for.
- Playback quality data for streams you watch, so we can tell a bad stream from a bad connection.
- Basic usage analytics, only if you accepted analytics cookies: pages viewed, roughly where in the world from, and what kind of device.
- Server logs, including IP addresses, kept for security and abuse investigation.
Why we hold it, and on what basis
- To run your account and show you the site. This is necessary to provide the service you asked for.
- To take payments and pay creators. This is necessary for the contract, and for our legal obligations around tax and money laundering.
- To keep the platform safe: moderation, abuse investigation, and stopping fake traffic. This is our legitimate interest in a platform that is not overrun.
- To send the notifications you turned on. You choose these in Settings and can turn them off there at any time.
- To understand how the site is used, in aggregate, so we can make it better. Analytics cookies are optional; we only set them if you accept them.
Who else sees it
We use a small number of providers to run the platform. They only ever get what they need to do their part, and none of them may use it for their own purposes.
- Supabase, for accounts, authentication and the database.
- Mux, for video ingest, playback, thumbnails and playback quality measurement.
- Stripe, for card payments and creator payouts.
- Resend, for the emails we send you.
- Vercel, for hosting and content delivery.
- Slack, which is where a notification lands when you send us something through the contact form or create an account, so a person sees it.
- Google Analytics, for aggregate usage measurement.
We also hand over data where the law requires it, and we will tell you when we are allowed to.
We do not sell your personal data. There is no version of this where we do.
Where it goes
Some of those providers process data outside the United Kingdom, including in the United States. Where that happens, the transfer relies on the UK International Data Transfer Addendum or the EU Standard Contractual Clauses.
How long we keep it
- Account and profile data: until you delete your account.
- Recordings of past broadcasts: 30 days, or less if you delete them, or not at all if you have the setting off.
- Chat messages: with the stream they belong to.
- Payment records: six years, because tax law requires it.
- Server logs: ninety days.
- Moderation records: two years after the decision, so appeals and repeat behaviour can be assessed fairly.
Your rights
Under UK GDPR you can ask us for a copy of what we hold about you, ask us to correct it, ask us to delete it, ask us to restrict what we do with it, object to processing based on legitimate interests, and ask for your data in a portable format. Ask and we will do it, free, within one month.
You can also complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk. We would rather you came to us first, but it is your right either way.
Children
FATCOMMA is not for under 16s. We ask for a date of birth at sign-up and refuse an account below that age. It is a declared date rather than a verified one, so if you believe a child has an account here, tell us and we will remove it.
Contact
Use the contact form at fatcomma.tv/contact and we will reply to the address you give. Anything that has to be served formally goes to Web Hero Limited, 71-75 Shelton Street, Covent Garden, London, WC2H 9JQ, United Kingdom.
